What's with the hyper-sensitivity lately?
:
Why has the world suddenly gone so much crazier lately? Have we lost our sense of humor with the passing of Ronald Reagan? I'm talking about the harsh criticism of Jimmy Kimmel and Larry Bird. On the "Jimmy Kimmel Show," host Jimmy Kimmel made the following remark about the NBA Finals featuring the L.A. Lakers vs. the Detroit Pistons: "I'm glad the Lakers are winning because besides the fact that I'm a Lakers fan, I realize they're gonna burn the city of Detroit down if the Pistons win, and it's not worth it." Now, aside from the fact that Kimmel is a Lakers fan (har, har), I find nothing offensive about this quote. The ABC network however, decided to pull the entire show off the air. Seriously people, it's not like he's encouraging riots, he's just playing on the fact that Detroit has had some rather, uh, "rough" celebrations in the past when their teams have won championships. It's not like Detroit's reputation isn't well known. It's a rough town. Of course, it was nice to see Kimmel get the last jab in his 'apology'... "What I said about Pistons fans during halftime last night was a joke, nothing more. If I offended anyone I am sorry. Clearly over the past 10 years, we in L.A. have taken a commanding lead in post-game riots. If the Lakers win, I hope to overturn my own car." Now, on to Larry Bird. Obviously there remains much sensitivity regarding the race issue. However, the headlines I'm seeing are truly appalling. Fox Sports' headline read "Bird says NBA needs more white stars." Wow, after reading that, I'm almost pissed at Larry Bird. But then you read the actual interview, and hopefully you draw the correct conclusion. Now, let's look at what he REALLY said... "You know when I played, you had me and Kevin (McHale) and some others throughout the league." Bird said. "I think it's good for a fan base because as we all know the majority of the fans are white America." I cringe at the "white America" statement, but what he says is valid. He's encouraging diversity in the league, and what's wrong with that? Why is it OK to say, "we need more women in the workplace" or "we need more African-Americans in school", but to say "we need more white players in basketball" is appalling and insensitive? "And if you just had a couple of white guys in there, you might get them a little excited. But it is a black man's game, and it will be forever. I mean, the greatest athletes in the world are African-American." How much clearer or complimentary could that statement have been? African-Americans are the greatest athletes in the world. Come on America, seriously, lighten up.

Summer At Last
:
Just a quick note to wish everyone a safe and happy summer season. For me it has gotten off to a busy start. I'm hoping to get a lot of tennis in and spend some much needed time with friends and family. Cheers.

The weekend is over already?!
:
Wow, I can't believe it is Sunday evening already. It seems like the weekend just can't be long enough during the spring and summer months. At least I had a productive weekend. I posted a new and "controversial" feature as well as a long overdue CD review. I've also started researching a religious feature that I hope to post soon as well. When I started this web site, I thought it would be a place to post my light-hearted, often comical ramblings. For some reason, they haven't been very humorous lately, and I don't know why. Maybe I'm starting to take life too seriously? Anyway, hope all is well with you and yours. Take a look around and drop me a message when you have a minute. I'm off to bed.

Where Are the Junk Mail Junkies?
:
Where are the people that make spam mail profitable? I want to find them and knock them upside the head and find out why they would support this revolting trend in advertising. I won't open spam on principal, it could have the most enticing subject line and be totally true..."Yes, you Kevin can drop 50 lbs, date the girl of your dreams, become independently wealthy, and effect world peace...Just by opening this e-mail." Nope... Not going to open it... Even if it's for world peace. Well, maybe...I'd think about it then. It was a frustrating day today. I have a million things to do, and then to be stricken with a condition I can do nothing about (migraine headaches). I don't have time for this! It's a bummer when your body fails you. I guess I should feel blessed in the fact that it doesn't fail on me often...Just at the worst possible times.

The More Things Change, The More they Stay the Same...Er, Not Really.
:
It's that time of year again, tax time. You would think I would learn my lesson, but I don't. Once again I have put it off to the last minute. Of course, this year's return is already as good as spent... damn dentists... I did a little spring cleaning today and came across an old family photo album. I browsed through photos dating back to my formative years. Old pictures absolutely fascinate me. All those moments frozen in time for years- possibly a lifetime. They can also be scary, as I find it difficult to see the people I care about getting older. I turned 25 this past November, and even though I'm "young", my teenage years seem to have occurred long ago. It's quite disturbing to think that my 20's are half over. Never forget where you come from, but never lose focus on where you're going...
